Tabin lab breakthrough in limb regeneration

Harvard Medical School geneticists team has made a breakthrough discovery on limb regeneration in February 2024

For the first time, researchers have pinpointed the essential proteins responsible for initiating the formation of limbs in mice and chicks. This breakthrough enables scientists to transform cells that typically don’t develop into limbs into ones that do, and sustain their viability in laboratory settings for extended periods compared to previous capabilities. This advancement significantly enhances comprehension of the initial stages of limb development, potentially paving the way towards the ultimate objective of regenerating lost limbs due to injury or disease.
